Cooperation between ports sustain use of inland waterway Elbe

Brunsbüttel Ports and Sächsische Binnenhäfen Oberelbe link seaports and inland ports to network of hinterland transportation

Existing cooperation between ports of Brunsbüttel and Glückstadt at lower Elbe as well as ports of Dresden, Riesa, Torgau, Dessau-Roßlau, Decin and Lovosice has been started in September 2009 to combine offered services of each partner. Present business segments like transport of windmill-powered plants could be optimised.

On July 26th of  2011 ten rotor blades type V90 weighting of about ten tonnes each were handled at port Alberthafen Dresden-Friedrichstadt on behalf of Vestas Blades Germany. Blades with dimensions of 44,00 x 2,50 x 3,20 meter were lifted to barge of Imperial Baris. Transport at inland waterway Elbe occurred from Dresden to Elbe port Brunsbüttel where those blades were loaded to vessel “SISU CAPELLA” for further shipment to Daimiel, spain.

Use of inland navigation especially for project cargo like windmill-powered plants is suitable for efficient transports from inland to shore. Offering tri-modal transport chains allow customers to select reasonable and safer transport modes. In addition benefit to the environment from transport by inland waterway is obvious.
